Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - I thought it was a bit dull. I went during Owl Days and there were these people talking about how much they loved Rice, but there was nothing that really caught my attention.

Campus Tour: Yes - I felt a bit lost at times, and it wasn't that interesting. I kinda just talked to the person next to me the entire time.

Most were very solicitous, just not my host or her friends. Other people seemed engaging, but my host didn't talk to me and wasn't very enthusiastic about anything, and her friend was overt

They were very nice and helped me get a taxi, find my way places, etc.

Lovett Hall's architecture was GORGEOUS, but I felt like some of the rest of the buildings ruined the appearance of the college, as they were a bit ugly (Sid Rich isnt very pretty).

I just thought the architecture was everywhere and seemed disorganized. I felt a bit cheated after going WOW LOOK AT THE PRETTY BUILDINGS to WHERE DID THE PRETTY BUILDINGS GO???

I'm not that big of a fan of residence halls, or maybe just not mine. The bathroom seemed very exposed to the rest of the dorm room, and I was a bit uncomfortable with that. Plus I like change.

I felt pretty safe.

I wasn't enthralled, but I guess if I had to spend four years there, I wouldn't have put up that much of a fight.

Campus Visit Notes for Rice University

Visit Description:

Umm...I stayed in Sid Rich, the tall residence hall. The food was decent, and the majority of the people were very nice and talked to me a lot. But there was this one girl who was friends with my host, and whenever I said something, she'd make a sarcastic aside to another one of her friends. I was a bit spacey that day because I forgot to take my allergy medications, and also a bit irritable, and she just made me uncomfortable. She actually spoiled my opinion of Rice a bit, which is a shame. The vast majority of people I met were very nice to me though.
I feel like a lot of the people there are a bit nerdy, but you also have your hard-partying jock types. But everyone seemed very accepting if you dont drink and wont force you to do anything you dont want to.
I also went on an abnormally un-ickily hot day, so the weather was lovely and the sky was clear. The view from Sid Rich, despite its bad points, and from pretty much all the other open spaces at night is pretty nice.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

My two cab drivers were both somewhat sketchy. My advice is to talk about weather. Just weather. If you get off just a bit, it turns messy very quickly.
