Visit to Rice University in March 2008 by ignatius (Parent of Student, HS Class of 2009)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Power point presentation followed by a question and answer session. Good. Campus Tour:
Yes - Excellent. Two tour guides combined the groups and just had fun giving the tour. Played off each other quite well and as a result no quiet awkward lapses.
Rice University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
Two tour guides combined groups and made the tour fun. The guides constantly spoke to others randomly passed on the campus; everyone seemed to know the two guides (in a good way).
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 3 - Good -
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Appearance of Campus: 3 - Good -
The ongoing construction somewhat mars the campus right now.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
Beautiful buildings. Excellent cleanliness.
Dormitories: 3 - Good -
Okay. Seemed dated.
Security/Safety: 3 - Good -
Hard to determine really. However, hs daughter took a (daytime) summer class at Rice; it was suggested she walk with others due to ongoing construction and difficulty monitoring access to campus.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 4 - Very Good -
The Rice Village area (older homes, shops, restaurants) - great! Medical center across street - busy.
