Visit to Santa Clara University in March 2008 by ebeeeee (Parent of Student, HS Class of 2009)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - We sat in on the last few minutes, typical info session. Adcom started off and then opened it up to ask questions of current students. Campus Tour:
Yes - Tour was during spring break. Tour guide was very informative, casual and willing to answer questions. Remarked "I like the more candid questions".
Santa Clara University Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good -
Students conducted the information session and the tours were very friendly. Other students were not on campus due to spring break.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 4 - Very Good -
Staff were very friendly and we were told we could go back and ask questions of adcoms after tour.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
Tour guide joked that tuition pays for landscaping. The campus is beautiful. Felt like we were touring a California Mission at times. A little intimidating...we found ourselves whispering sometimes.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
Many new buildings, new library opening on Monday, new pool being built and a new soccer facility being built.
Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
The dorms looked great from the outside. We were not allowed to see inside which was a disappointment.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
Gate with security guard handing out parking passes, dorms all have swipe card system and typical blue light system is on campus. Campus security segways around property.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good -
For the right student, seemed like a great place.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: -
Unknown, this was our last stop and we wanted to get on the road and get home.
City/Town/Community: -
We did not spend much time around the campus...
Campus Visit Notes for Santa Clara University:
Visit Description:
We toured the campus during spring break which was a negative. Campus was very quiet and felt like being in a park or church...the tour guides were friendly and the campus is beautiful. The guides were very candid about the fact that students should be looking for fit and that SCU is not for everyone. Disappointing that we couldn't see inside a dorm and the new library which looks great from the outside is opening Monday so we couldn't see that.
A new engineering and a new business school building are on the plans/in construction. There is obviously a decent alumni network and fundraising in place.
Overall we had a good impression of the campus, the surrounding area, etc.
