Campus Visit Notes for Santa Clara University

Visit Description:

Everyone we have talked to about this school, both former students, people who live in the area, etc get misty eyed when they talk about it. Amazing school - some examples:
1. The library appears to carry NO books when you first walk in - most are housed upstairs and requested by internet, where a crane delivers them to the desk. The entire space is pods of computers and printers as well as rooms for study groups that can be videotaped and streamed to others who were unable to attend.
2. The campus requires three courses of theology (30 choices - most popular are theology of death and theology of marraige - how fascinating!) as well as a course of ethics directly related to your discipline. Whatever you study, you do a course of case studies where you discuss the ethics of choices directly related to your profession/interest.
3. The athletic facility is awesome and heavily used by a wide variety of teams at a variety of levels - didn't even smell like sweat!
3. The campus "chapel" is an original mission - beautiful beyond description. Tour guide told us there is a four year wait to get married there.
4. The career center has five full time people helping SCU students find internships and jobs, both locally and in other cities. Lots of discussion about how networked this center is to other colleges, etc.

We started the visit with my daughter saying this was her last choice of our schools to visit, and ended with it being bumped up to her all around favorite on her entire list of possibilities.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We headed straight to St. Mary's in Moraga - only stopped for fast food!

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Close to San Jose airport - 7 minutes.
