Lovely campus. Most buildings are red brick, and the new are seamlessly integrated into the old - can't tell them apart from the exterior.

Older bldgs show wear & tear on the inside, but were clean.

I saw a townhouse - very nice option for upperclassmen. D said the dorm she stayed in was "about average" for the schools she has visited.

Campus Visit Notes for St. Marys College of Maryland

Visit Description:

D did an overnight, then I joined her the next day for all the Admitted Students Day activities. Well, not all the activities - too much going on to hit them all! There was a menu of options to choose from.

All students do either an internship or study abroad option here. Given its proximity to Wash DC & the naval base, I believe they're in a better position than most LACs for internship potential.

D did not care too much for the food - and she had dinner, breakfast, and lunch there, so complete exposure. Dining hall is nice, but there is only one dining facility on campus, except for a Quiznos.

If D attends, she would be an OOS student, and I've been worried about logistics like transportation to/from airport. We happened to meet an OOS student from Maine who told us that they have an "Out of State Club" on campus. One of the things they were working on was arranging a shuttle every weekend to the airports. (The college already sponsors a shuttle around school breaks.)

D met with a math professor because she thinks she wants to major in math. We were very impressed with him and his rapport with the kids.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

Solomon's Island has 3 charming B&Bs.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Wonderful restaurant called "D&J's Cafe" - or something similar to that - on Solomon's Island. It's not as obvious as the other choices, but wonderful food.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

We took #4 down and #5 up - only possible ways to get there! I'd recommend that for the variety. #5 takes you through an Amish area. Took me a while to realize why the roads had 1 1/2 lanes.
