Campus Visit Notes for Stanford University

Visit Description:

My visit was unparalleled. They have one street called The Row, which is basically all the frats/sorority houses, co-ops, and theme dorms. The houses are very pretty. It was about 75 degrees when i visited and students were in their swimsuits playing Frisbee, sliding down makeshift waterslides, and playing volleyball on the lawns. They all seemed pretty down to earth though and everyone we ran into was smart but not pompous or arrogant.
The dorm rooms are not very large but i saw a double and they seemed to be just fine. The food i tasted was descent for college food, although students did tell me they got tired of it. However, many people said the food on The Row was AMAZING because the houses have live-in chefs that cook their food.
I went to a psychology lecture on language and the professor was very engaging and had a great speaking style. The students were focused for the most part but i did see a few on their laptops looking at facebook pages.
The campus itself is very green and has a lot of open space. It's a somewhat larger campus than many, but almost every student has a bike, and there are bike racks EVERYWHERE for students to lock their bikes. i heard that the only kind of crime that goes on at Stanford is bike theft..which can be stopped if people get good locks. The campus is isolated enough that it is enclosed, but close to Stanford Shopping Center, which is enormous and very nice.
In case anyone didn't know, Stanford has their own golf course (tiger woods went to stanford...so did reese witherspoon and jennifer conelly) and stables. They also have tons of fountains all over campus, which students go swimming in on hot days (called Fountain Hopping). They have several banks on campus and a Jamba Juice in the student union.

Overall, the visit was stellar. Everyone should go visit Stanford and see for yourself!

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

i live close so we didn't go to a hotel

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

I didn't eat at any restaurants but as a waitress, i am sure that the many pricey restaurants and rich residents will mean great tips!!!...not so friendly to students though.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

there is a free campus bus called the Marguerite, which takes students into town. there are buses and the BART tracks, which students can use to get to SF and Berkeley/greater bay area.
