Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - The representative was very informative, but I felt like I was in a class for a lecture. He just kept rambling on and on about "Why Tufts?" Nothing stood out and I still don't have a r

Campus Tour: Yes - I went during a complete blackout due to manhole fires, so our tour guide tried to make the best of it. I liked how they gave us a choice of which tour guide based on their major.

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:

Didn't see many students besides the tour guides. She saw some people she knew and I guess they were pretty friendly.

Appearance of Campus:
3 - Good
3 - Good
It was a pretty cold day when I went, so not many students were out and about on campus which was a total turnoff. Everything was too colonial and boring for me.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
Extremely clean, extremely bright, extremely modern. Loved it. However, all the buildings looked the same. Not my type of school.

Overall Campus Impression:
3 - Good
3 - Good
Tufts is a good school but from this experience, I learned that it was not for me. The lack of architecture around the quad was a major turnoff.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
2 - Fair

I entered in through the shady side of Somerville so I didn't have a great first impression. Knowing that this type of neighborhood is right around Tufts wasn't too uplifting either.

City/Town/Community:
4 - Very Good

It's 20 minutes from Boston. Enough said.

Campus Visit Notes for Tufts University

Visit Description:

I visited Tufts thinking that it was the best school for me. I was ready to apply Early Decision to Tufts. However, when I visited, I didn't feel that sudden uplifting feeling you're SUPPOSED to get when you know it's the "right" school. I wasn't a big fan of the architecture and nothing about Tufts really stood out. I know that it's supposed to be a much more well rounded college as opposed to a school like MIT, which is supposed to excel in the math and sciences, but they didn't stress the whole "diversity" trend too much even though that's what they boasted about. I wish they would have told me more about the social life on campus than the academic life. I want to know the funny annual events that go on on campus. I want to know what people do on campus besides studying and going to marching band. I want to know how the people are besides my tour guide.
I might need to visit again soon because my first visit wasn't great with the whole blackout issue and all. We weren't allowed to go into the library, visit a classroom, or visit a dorm because the electricity went out.
