Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: No - I was dumb and didn't think to schedule an interview when I went, but I wish I had.

Information Session: Yes - I don't quite remember the information session. All info sessions tend to run together after a while.

Campus Tour: Yes - When I went, we had a big info session and there were about4 or 5 tour guides available. They all told us our majors (which varied) and we were able to choose which one we wanted to go with. This was great for me because I talked to a girl following a pre

Everyone I met was extremely nice and outgoing. Maybe I just loved the people there because they seemed just like me. They were intelligent, well cultured, openminded people with an appreciation (but not obsession like some of the top ivy schools) for aca

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
I didn't really interact with any staff on my visit so I can't rank this one

This campus is absolutely beautiful, especially in the fall when I went. After having visited Boston University the day before which is the epitome of urban school, it was really nice to find greenery everywhere. The hill is killer though. I had sore legs

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
Everything seemed fine, I guess. Nothing stood out as not good.

Dormitories:

The dorm that my friend stayed in was kind of on the 'eh' side but that's just one building. I went to some other people's dorms that were much, much nicer than hers. I think it just depends on where you get put. There are some great o

Security/Safety:

Tufts is a little isolated-ish by itself (even though Somerville/Medford/Boston are ridiculously close) so it's very safe feeling. And the Tufts po-po are EVERYWHERE.

It's a great school. Period.

This is actually one of the things that really got me loving Tufts. You have the campus itself which is gorgeous. You walk a little ways (or take the Joey) into Davis Square which is this adorable, quaint little place with cute restaurants and coffee shop

To continue what I was saying above, I loved the dynamic that's available with Tufts location because it gives you so many options. You can chill at your dorm ot try a frat party or head out for coffee/dinner/movie at Davis Square or you can hit the

Campus Visit Notes for Tufts University

Visit Description:

I flew into Boston with a good friend of mine and we planned on visiting Boston U, Northeastern, and Tufts. We have friends who attend both Boston U and Tufts so we were planning on spending a night with each of them.

First of all, I have to say that taking the trip without parents made a huge difference. We landed at Logan with no idea how to get anywhere. I mean sure we had printed out directions for public transportaion but we soon ditched those. Exploring the city on our own made the experience seem so much more real and exciting. (We soon became T experts and actually ended up knowing more about the T lines than our friends who lived there!).

We first went to Northeastern. I didn't like it. All I'm going to say.

Then we visited BU and met up with our friend who goes there. The school is very urban but I liked it nevertheless. Unfortunately we didn't get to stay the night because BU has a very, very stupid OCD guest policy.

So we called up our friend from Tufts and asked if we could stay an extra night there which was no problem. Turns out our Tufts friend was in Boston that night already. So she took us to the Pru and we had delicious dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Shopping in Boston is so great.

I'd like to take a moment to say how much I love the T. While many people might find this annoying, being packed in and unable to move at 10:30pm on the Green line on a Friday night was an amazing experience. I had two asian ladies fall into my lap, sang Happy Birthday for a random guy named Greg who turned 20 with the entire car, and joined in on a sing-a-long initiated by four drunken college kids from *insert one of the zillion colleges in Boston*

So the first night in Tufts was not so hot and it almost ruined it for me. We pregamed and then went frat hunting. One was lame. The other we couldn't get into because it had gotten busted a few times and they started checking Tufts ids at the door. And while this bummed us out for a little while and we got worried that Tufts had no night life, we realized that that's just because we were pre-frosh. If we went there, it wouldn't have been a problem.

Anyway, we went to the library roof where a zillion people already were and the first thing I noticed was the view. Seeing the entire city of Boston lit up at night from the library roof is beautiful. We talked to some random people and most of them were great. When we went back to her dorm, we ended up sitting around in the lounge and hanging out with some people from her floor for a couple hours, talking about random things and playing ten fingers (haha).

I really gelled with them and felt like I'd really fit in there. Since I'm Indian, they told me how sometimes they randomly have Indian food in the dining halls. There aren't that many Indians at the school, but the people who go to tufts are so well cultured that they serve it anyway.

The second day, we had our tour/info session which were good but didn't help me know the school as much as the overnight stay. One thing that was great was that we ended up talking to our tour guide about the whole lack of party thing from the night before and she gave us her number to call if we needed anything that night. Amazing? I think so.

We went into the city again to see the sights and I fell in love. Completely and totally in love. Some people say they get that feeling about a school; I got it about the city. We went into the theatre district and to Fanueil Hall and I can't even tell you how amazing it was. The city of Boston is my love. I would have children with it if I could. Haha.

Also, there's no tax on clothing in Massachusetts!!

So after an amazing day in the city, we headed back at night for dinner at a cute little Japanese restaurant halfway between Davis Square and Tufts. It was delicious.

Then we took the T in a few stops and went to Harvard Square. You can hear the street performers from the T stop. It's a really great atmosphere.
We went back and wandered about Davis Square for a while which is just so adorable. (For anyone who lives in Rochester, NY - it really reminds me of Park Ave).

At around eleven, we went back for one more try at the party scene. After pregaming, we easily found a party this time and it was amazing. That's all I can say. When you think of frat party in your mind, the frat party we attended was just that. There was another one going on that night that was "Red Light District" that we didn't go to. The one we went to was themed "Golf pros & tennis hoes." We dressed as "tennis hoe-y" as we could but we were ill prepared. We were a little nervous about getting in but once we got to the door, the guy was like "LADIES COME ON IN. FELLAS, WAIT A SECOND." It's easy to get into parties if you're female.

We left around 2 I think and went to the library roof again. One of things I loved about the library roof that night and the walk back to the dorm was that I talked to so many very random people and they were all so nice to me. I struck up a conversation with three random guys on the library roof and they were all great. I was disappointed when I had to leave and go elsewhere. I struck up a conversation with at least three people on the street walking back to the dorm and they, too, were so nice. I feel like at some schools people would be annoyed by talking to random drunk people. But not at Tufts.

We had to get up ridiculously early to catch our flight back which sucked.

But all I can say is that I loved Tufts. I think the two things that really got me were the people there because I felt like I'd fit in there really well and it's amazing location. I'm one of those people who needs variety some times. I know a lot of times I end up doing the same thing every weekend and that annoys me. There are a lot of opportunities at Tufts.

You will find people that hate Tufts because they wish they were at Harvard but I think you'll find people like that at most schools. Maybe they're in higher number or something at Tufts but I think those types of kids tend to stick together and everyone else is pretty great.

If you love the city of Boston and are interested in a school in around Boston that has great academics but isn't Harvard, definitely, definitely look at Tufts.
