Visit Activities:
Information Session:
No - I went on a weekend, so no information session was provided. :(
Campus Tour:
Yes - Very brief glimpse at the campus...seemed like the tourguide was pointing to buildings in the distance instead of actually showing us around. A lot of talking about rivalries with Stanford/UCLA/USC and about Cal tradition.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
3 - Good
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
3 - Good
Appearance of Campus:
4 - Very Good
Really pretty buildings. I hate litter, though! and it seemed like people don't respect the campus when there are tons of trashcans around everywhere.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
3 - Good
Litter everywhere! Otherwise, the buildings I entered were really nice- I went into some science building and saw an almost complete replica of a TRex- way awesome
Dormitories:
Didn't visit one- but the outside of where my tourguide pointed looked not so pretty.
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
in the morning, a lot of the people around the Berkeley streets looked pretty sketch- tons of hippies, homeless (one homeless lady even latched on to our tour group, eek)
but on campus, i felt pretty safe
Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
The small fraction of Berkeley I saw was pretty nice
horrified by the size of some of the lecture halls though
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
In the morning, it was pretty sketchy...but towards lunch time, the adjacent streets became very active- people selling tie dye and jewelry on the streets- more normal people walking around instead of hippies and the homeless.
i ate at a Indian restauran
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
SKETCH
but towards the end of my visit, I warmed up to the town of Berkeley
Campus Visit Notes for University of California-Berkeley
Visit Description:
My parents really want me to attend Berkeley- visiting, they thought, would make me more interested
I liked the campus, but overall, visiting didn't give me a good idea of what attending Berkeley would be like- I'll have to go for an overnight visit, I guess
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
Indian place- really affordable and GOOD- called Naan and Curry
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
I had no problem finding parking- but it was expensive ($10 for about 3 hrs)
