Campus Visit Notes for University of California-Berkeley
Visit Description:
This is more about the logistics of the tour than the school, but we drove around in circles trying to find the starting point for the tour. It was a Sat. and turned out that the usual office where you would start was closed ( determined after we went through much aggravation to find a place to park)...only to find we were in the wrong place. We weren't the only ones to make this mistake...
By the time we got to the right place the tour had started. We grabbed a parking spot on campus on the street, as there were no signs there prohibitting parking. Others on the tour did the same.
The tour guide was very peppy and preppy ( a lot of stuff about football and rivalry with Stanford), which seemed out of character with the school, and was a bit of a turn-off to d...
We were disappointed that there was no admissions info session that day, those were only on MOn and Weds, I believe...not feasible for us to return, anyhow.
When we returned to our car, you guessed it, we (and the others that had parked there) were greeted by a $40. parking ticket. I later appealed the ticket, as there were no signs, but to no avail.
Spent the weekend in Berkeley...to me it seemed seedy, crowded and expensive. Parking a major hassle. D felt sorry for the street people, who even ask for your leftovers when you leave a restaurant. They were drawn to her like a magnet, as she gave them money. One even asked for $5.!
OK, we live in the burbs, the street scene was pretty weird to me.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Rose Garden Inn, a B&B on Telegraph...pricey but awesome breakfast...room was small and upstairs, staff helpful (perry). Even there, parking was a major hassle.
