Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - I was at UCLA for the Engineering Open House. Overall, it seemed very organized and most of the faculty had been waiting for this day with anticipation. The sessions were very informative.

Campus Tour: Yes - I was on a campus tour hosted by the MatSciE dept. Their new building was very modern and spiffy. The following housing tour showed the tour group one of the residence halls (Hendrick).

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
The students/guides were eager to answer any questions about living on campus. I gave this a 5 because while exploring a Plaza, two girls saw me and my relatives and offered to show us their rooms.

Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
3 - Good
3 - Good
They seemed open to questions. They did not toss around any bad looks and kept their smiles.

Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
The great SoCal weather definitely helped in making the campus look more pristine and incredible. The campus was clean for the most part, but that should be expected from an open house event.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
3 - Good
3 - Good
The buildings (both old and new) were void of any litter. Though the insides of the older buildings actually seemed old, they didn't warrant any "ugh" faces. :P

Dormitories:
3 - Good
3 - Good
The halls are very livable. Though the rooms seem extremely cramped (about 10' wide x 14' long x 10' high), as long as you don't sit in it all day, you should be fine. Plaza rooms

Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
There is a on-campus security force that provides escorts at anytime during the day and night to students to help them get home in one piece.

Overall Campus Impression:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
School spirit is abundant. The campus, with the help of the nice Spring weather in SoCal, was almost immaculate. Though it may be HOT during the summer, my overall impression was very positive.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
4 - Very Good
The 405 Freeway is right beside the campus. There is little to no air pollution. There are a lot of nice cars in the surrounding neighborhood too :)

City/Town/Community:
5 - Excellent
5 - Excellent
Definitely seemed like a tight-knit community. Surrounding by famous cities and landmarks, it definitely is a nice place to spend 4 years for a top-notch education.

Campus Visit Notes for University of California-Los Angeles

Visit Description:

After a tour of the residence halls, me and my family decided to look at one of the plazas (an upgraded residence hall). We were just strolling around one of the floors of the building when two girls came up and greeted us. They noticed we didn't live at UCLA, and offered us a look at one of their rooms. I became extremely excited not because I was going to get a look at a Plaza room, but because I was really surprised at their openness and kind offer.

Another observation: although there were instances of interracial interaction, people of similar races seemed to stick together.
