Information Session:
Yes - Very, very informative. The presenter did an excellent job of doing a general overview of the campus, and answering specific questions as well.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Very informative, and interesting. The tour lasted for about one hour, and visited all the major parts of campus. The tour guide was very knowledgeable of the campus, as well as the schools history
Classroom Visit:
Yes - Although class was not in session, we were able to look inside some of the larger lecture halls. They were all clean, and well maintained.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
4 - Very Good
People didnt go out of their way to introduce themselves to you, but honestly this would be the same at any campus. Every person that I engaged though was receptive to my questions, and friendly also.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
5 - Excellent
The only staff we really interacted with were the tour guides, and campus store staff. All were very friendly though, and courteous as well. One tour guide offered to show us his dorm room.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
See general description.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
No graffiti, no trash, etc. All buildings are in excellent condition. It is obvious that the school takes pride in its appearance.
Dormitories:
5 - Excellent
The dorm layout is excellent. They are all in the same area, up on the hill. When you walk around, it feels like a small community secluded from everywhere else. Most buildings are relatively new also
Security/Safety:
5 - Excellent
The school has a full fledges police force, as well as many volunteer security officers. They have escort services to walk you home as night, as well as vans to drive you around after the sun sets.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
I enrolled the moment I got home. The campus was beautiful, the people were friendly, the atmosphere was welcoming, etc.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
5 - Excellent
You have Bel Air, Brentwood, Beverley Hills, Century City, etc all within walking distance of the campus. Westwood is a great college town, with tons of options for stuff to do. A car is not needed.
City/Town/Community:
4 - Very Good
It's Los Angeles. The opportunities are nearly limitless. Only downside is the traffic. You really have to plan your day accordingly if you want to get anywhere. You get used to it though apparen
Campus Visit Notes for University of California-Los Angeles
Visit Description:
My first impression of the campus was just how beautiful it was. Everything is made out of red brick, and it all flows together. The central plaza has some of the prettiest architecture in the city, and really leaves you awe struck. The campus is huge though as well. To walk from one side to the other takes a good 20 minutes, if not more.
The dorms are great. UCLA placed all of the buildings in one area, giving it a really tight-knit feel. All the buildings are relatively new, and all are well maintained. The dorms are clean, and most importantly the bathrooms are somewhat bearable. Depending on the building you are in, you will either have a private bathroom, shared bathroom between two rooms, or communal bathroom. The communal bathrooms aren't all that bad. The janitorial staff keeps them up to par. Unfortunately for us freshmen though, most of us will be packed into triples next year.
Although I didn't have an opportunity to try the food, everyone says its great. Every student I talked to mentioned the quality of the food, even If I never asked about it. The only complaint they had was that it would get old after a while, which is expected. Luckily, there are three supermarkets all within 5-10 minutes walking distance of the campus.
The tours are very informative, and I would highly recommend one. The guides are knowledgeable about the campus, as well as its history. Our guide was able to answer every single question, and even had a few stories of his about the school to share. My favorite part of the tour was when he told us some of the more infamous pranks between USC and UCLA. They include an entire plaza filled with 6 feet of bubbles, 20,000 crickets in the library, and the arm of Tommy Trojan being sawed off and then welded to his rear.
This visit really sold me on UCLA, and I would recommend it to anyone even remotely considering the school.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
The Metro Bus gets you anywhere you need to in the city. Parking is expensive, but easy to find.
