Visit to University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill in April 2007 by annn (Student, HS Class of 2007)
Visit Activities:
Information Session: Yes - There was an approx. 1 hour information session after the campus tour. It was mostly for those seeking admission to the university and as an already admitted student, it was kinda useless for me.
Campus Tour: Yes - Sucks. They only focused on a little bit of middle campus, though that is considered the "heart" of UNC.
Classroom Visit: Yes - I sat in on a feature writing class. The professor was very nice, but the class itself was useless.
University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent 5 - Excellent - Students and staff here are extremely nice! My dad and I apparently appeared lost and a student saw that and helped us right away without us even asking.
   Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent 5 - Excellent - See above.
Appearance of Campus: 4 - Very Good 4 - Very Good - I thought the middle campus was kinda a typical college campus, but the north and more old side of campus is absolutely beautiful. Trees and hills are everywhere. Have not visited South campus yet.
   Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 3 - Good 3 - Good
Dormitories: 3 - Good 3 - Good - The north campus dorms I've seen look like plantation houses from the outside. I have not actually been inside any dorms though.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent 5 - Excellent - UNC has their own campus police. Enough said.
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good 4 - Very Good - Pretty decent impression. The scenary surrounding UNC is gorgeous and made the walk from North campus back to middle campus bearable and even fun.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 3 - Good 3 - Good - Franklin Street is nice. It's nothing amazing, but it's nice.
City/Town/Community: 3 - Good 3 - Good - Chapel Hill seems like a quiant, cute little town. I think someone mentioned there are only 50k residents in Chapel Hill.
Campus Visit Notes for University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill:
Visit Description: Overall I found my visit to be pretty good. Stand out areas include the upper North Campus (the older side of campus according to my tour guide) from the Old Well to the Morehead Plantarium. The area surrounding the Old Well is so beautiful with hills, trees, and flowers and just a lot of space for students to hang out outside which is my favorite part about UNC. How the campus is laid out really creates a community/close knit feeling. Wilson Library is gorgeous and looks like something from a movie. I found The Pit to be pretty disappointing, though I did visit it when classes were going on so there weren't very many people out there. You can tell a lot of the buildings are old (FA office, for one), but I guess that's what the construction is for. I found there to be a decent amount of construction, but nothing that was overbearing. The dining hall was okay (Lenoir) and has your typical fast food places like subway, burger king, etc.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.): I did not find any visitor parking on campus which was a bit annoying. We had to park off campus which was a bit far and walk from there.
