Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - Very cute, but not especially knowledgeable young lady. My two sons (17 yo twins) thought SHE was the reason they should apply.
Campus Tour:
Yes - Beautiful campus but they neglected (then said they couldn't) show us the men's dorms - a most important part of campus life since they'll be a thou miles from home.We got in on our own
Classroom Visit:
Yes - Huge lecture hall with all the high tech bells & whistles. No visit to "regular" classroom.
Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:
3 - Good
Young man who let us into mens dorm very nice, but shouldn't have let us in - we're strangers. Wondering now about security.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
3 - Good
Admissions staffer was downright snotty, but all the other very friendly and polite. No reason for Ad staff to be so uppity!
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
Epitome of a beautiful campus - and with "Touchdown Jesus" and the "Holy Hand-off" there is nothing not to love!
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
Very well maintained, everything in good order.
Dormitories:
3 - Good
We sneaked into one of the oldest dorms, and it was tight, but the in-dorm chapel more than made up for the small rooms. Very good condition though.
Security/Safety:
2 - Fair
With own police and fire services, one wonders what they are NOT reporting?
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Nicest place we've seen yet!
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
3 - Good
Golf courses and small city, plus St. Mary's College - even a nearby small airport. Great college town, but all the action is ON campus.
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
Mid sized midwestern city - looks like there is a good opportunity for off campus work.
Campus Visit Notes for University of Notre Dame
Visit Description:
The admissions and visitor center seemed put out that we would bother them on a Friday afternoon (visit scheduled for weeks, lots of others there too). The lady who admitted us to the "movie about Notre Dame" was actually rude! The rest of the visit went well. Fantastic food in both cafeterias!!! Their "free meal" visit was actually a discount coupon and it still cost us over $35 for dinner. Not a bank breaker but we were told "it's on us" on the phone.
They make sure you see the new buildings and all the great athletic facilities, but don't even ask about seeing the old dorms, old classroom bldgs, etc. They aren't part of the tour.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
Lots of hotels (cheap to fancy) in area... take your pick.
