Visit to University of Pennsylvania in June 2007 by arachnophobia12 (Student, HS Class of 2008)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
Yes - I learned a lot and appreciated that they made the info session informative and interesting. Campus Tour:
Yes - We took a tour of the entire campus and spent some time in many of the buildings. Our tour guide was really helpful in explaining the importance/function of each building and student life on campus. Classroom Visit:
Yes - The classrooms at Penn are all really nice (especially the Wharton buildings) and new-looking.
University of Pennsylvania Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 5 - Excellent -
The students at Penn were great! I felt welcomed and accepted by every student I met on campus. The students were always willing to help.
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 5 - Excellent -
The staff members I met were all very kind and helpful, whether they were discussing Penn, answering questions, or just saying hi.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
I think Penn has a beautiful campus, even though it's in the middle of a big city. Locust Walk, that goes through the middle of campus, is very nice, as there are trees and grass all around.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 5 - Excellent -
The entire campus and buildings were clean and well-maintained; many of the buildings looked brand new.
Dormitories: 4 - Very Good -
The dorms I saw were nice, although I thought the high-rise dorms were kind of small.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
Even though Penn is in a big city, the campus (and the city, for that matter) is relatively safe, contrary to popular (and incorrect) belief.
Overall Campus Impression: 5 - Excellent -
Overall, I loved my experience at Penn. I hope I'll be able to matriculate next fall.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 5 - Excellent -
There were museums, other colleges, stores, and other attractions either within walking distance of the campus or easily accessible by public transportation.
City/Town/Community: 5 - Excellent -
I love Philadelphia; it's a great metropolitan city with it's own identity. It definitely doesn't deserve the bad rap it gets.
