Visit to University of Pennsylvania in June 2007 by Sachmoney (Student, HS Class of 2006)
Visit Activities:
Information Session:
No - Yes, the information session was really boring. The admissions lady kept trying to do marketing and I was like...we're at Penn, you don't need to market. She should've just gotten to th Campus Tour:
Yes - The tour guide was really cool. I was fortunate to get someone who was in Wharton (where I am thinking of transferring to). I think it's important to talk to people in your interest. Classroom Visit:
No - We didn't go to any classrooms, which was a bummer, but it was understandable because admissions tours don't let you see anything
University of Pennsylvania Campus:
Friendliness/Courtesy of Students: 4 - Very Good -
I thought that the tour guide was friendly, but the student body seemed friendly and willing to help if you asked
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff: 4 - Very Good -
I really didn't talk to the staff much, but the woman at the front desk seemed nice.
Appearance of Campus: 5 - Excellent -
I love Penn's campus. It's like an urban town. There really seems like there is a resemblance of community that you feel from the campus.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness: 4 - Very Good -
The buildings are typical in Ivy style, but the new Huntsmen building is amazing.
Security/Safety: 5 - Excellent -
The dorms were all fenced off with security, and there ar blue lights all over the place
Overall Campus Impression: 4 - Very Good
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus: 2 - Fair -
The area around Penn is sort of run down, but the area to the West is really run down. It's not East Cleveland, but it looks like it could be bad. However, the area is very vibrant.
Campus Visit Notes for University of Pennsylvania:
Visit Description:
I went to an information session at the Wharton School in the afternoon. The admissions person was very helpful in answering my questions. Also, if you go to the morning information session, make sure you snag a Penn Course book because I'm sure it's really helpful (I wish I snagged one).
