Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: No - UVA doesn't offer Admissions Interviews

Information Session: Yes - I went for DOTL, so it wasn't an "information session" per se, but a panel of profs speaking. It was very good.

Campus Tour: Yes - Surprisingly, my tour guide was not very good. There were too many tours going on at the same time, I think, so we couldn't go to all of the interesting places.

Classroom Visit: Yes - It was about what I expected from a large university. Huge.

Campus:

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:

Everyone I met was extremely helpful and friendly. They were all interested in having a good time, but they were also very dedicated to their areas of study.

I didn't encounter many staff.

Appearance of Campus:

The campus is gorgeous, especially in the spring. There's nothing quite like walking down the lawn.

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

Dormitories:
3 - Good

My only complaint was the quality of the dorms. Old Dorms were sort of gross, and from what I understand New Dorms are even worse.

Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good

Swipe cards and passcodes on all the dorms. I never felt unsafe, though, so I'm guessing their just precautions.

Overall Campus Impression:

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:

UVA is integrated into much of C'ville, and the buses and trolleys to the downtown area are free.

City/Town/Community:

It has a vibrant, energetic feel. I would go to UVA just to live near the area.

Campus Visit Notes for University of Virginia

Visit Description:

I highly recommend doing an overnight visit. The admissions office is friendly and polite, but they have so many prospective students come through (and they're so big they don't really need to recruit) that they aren't always as personal as they could be. The students, however, are highly interested in helping prospies (the tour guide scene is particularly competitive and most freshman really want to host prospies).

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

There are lots of restaurants on The Corner that are very good.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Buses are free, which is really good, because parking is hard to come by. Stop by Monticello, too, it's gorgeous!
