Campus Visit Notes for University of Virginia:
Visit Description:
As part of a class trip to Washington DC, we started off the trip with a visit to the University of Virginia (which would be followed by a Monticello tour the next morning). It was a fairly basic visit with just a tour of the grounds by a soon to be 4th year student (they refer to the students by their year there, started by Thomas Jefferson). But, I will say, it was very nice visit & had lots of information. She told us about everything, from what classes were taught in that building to class size and even about the schools secret societys. I thought it was great to hear it from a student, as she was able to include her personal experiences in it-which dorm she lived in, what the food's like, etc. We were there after classes had been out for about a week but still a few days before graduation, campus was kind of dead, so if you want to see it when it's a little more lively, go another time of year. But overall it was great experience and many of us were very impressed with it. My friend is now convinced that UVA is the place for her and I plan to at least apply.
Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:
We stayed at what I think they say is the top hotel in Charlottesville, the Omni. It was extremely nice & would recommend it.
Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:
We ate at Woodgrill Buffet for dinner, great food. We had a large group with all kinds of different likes/dislikes in food & it's safe to say that everyone was satisfied. We had lunch the next day at Michie Tavern by Monticello, a very cool setti
Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
Monticello. If you're visiting Mr. Jefferson's university, you might as well visit his hime too! There's also the Fashion Place mall, so if you have an urge to shop, there's a mall.
