Take the parkway if you are coming from NYC, not the Taconic. Much nicer ride, much less hills and such. Though the Taconic is a shorter ride, by about 20 minutes, the parkway is an ideal trip.

We drove a rental car. Parking at Vassar was no problem whatsoever, but again, the campus was mostly empty when we were there.

A couple nice stores on campus, but as an avid PC user, the mac-centric campus kind irked me.

To get to Vassar you can take the Metro North from NYC to the last stop in Poughkeepsie. From there it's about 10-20 minutes to campus by car.
