Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - Less of an interview and more of a conversation. Questions like what do you like to do after school and how did you hear about the school seemed to be common among the people I talked to.

Information Session: Yes - Covered everything from admissions to study abroad. Nothing really new if you've done research on the school but a good time to ask questions! A faculty memeber, admissions officer and student ta

Campus Tour: Yes - Beautiful campus! It was snowing (in April!) but even so it was marvelous! The tour guide was very informative and answered any questions we had. We got to see dining halls, classrooms and dorms.

The rest of the surrounding area was nice. It is a school in the middle of a city so it had a downtown city atmosphere but it appeared to be very safe.

Campus Visit Notes for Washington University in St. Louis

Visit Description:

The trip was great! Everyone was friendly and genuinely cared that I had a good time. I would definitely recommend going to an information session. Even if you have researched the school thoroughly, it is still a good time to ask questions if you have any. Follow that up by a campus tour where you can ask a current student (they are usually the ones to run the tour) any questions that are specific to student life, academics, etc. I wasn't able to eat on campus or visit a class but I would definitely recommend that you do. You get a free meal card with about $8 on it so that you can eat on campus and there is a large packet of possible classes that you can attend if you wish.

Also, try to visit the surrounding area. The Loop is a great place to grab a bite or see the local shopping scene. Also visit Forest Park. It was beautiful! The admissions officer who did my interview was telling me that if it is cold enough, the zoo in the park lets the penguins out of their cages so that they can roam the zoo!

Speaking of the interview, DO IT! I know that I was scared about having one but it was not the typical interview. Most visitors were interviewed by students but I was lucky (or unlucky depending on how you look at it) enough to get an admissions officer. Even so, it was a laid back process that flowed more like a conversation than an interview. As for what to wear, it all depends on what you fell comfortable in. I was in nice dress slacks and a blouse but others were in jeans and a t-shirt. I will say that the interviewers were mostly in jeans so that really shows that it is a laid back affair.

The campus is beyond beautiful so take some time to roam on your own, even if you do have a campus tour. You can't go everywhere on the tour (although we did visit a dorm, walk by a class, go into the dining hall and see the athletic complex)so take some time to walk the whole campus and visit places that interest you the most.

Be prepared for unpredictable weather. I went in April it was snowing but the next day it was bright and sunny.

All in all it was a great trip. I learned a lot about the school and got to see a beautiful campus. I knew I wanted to apply tot eh school before but after this visit I now know that I want to apply ED.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

I stayed in a Comfort Inn in a nearby city. Although it was nice, there are other fancier options like a Ritz Carlton in close proximity to the school and airport.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

I ate on the Loop and it was delicious. There were many options to choose from (one place regularly served Chuck Barry!)

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Be sure to use your parking pass that the school gives you and to park in the correct area! We did not and ended up getting a ticket.
