Visit Activities:

Information Session: Yes - An Admissions officer and a current student gave a little presentation about the academic programs, switching between schools, and requirements, along with some stuff just about life at the school.

Campus Tour: Yes - Very informative tour of the whole campus. We got to see the actual dorm rooms and their largest lecture hall (holds 400). Most of the buildings have random histories which I find very interesting.

The lady behind the desk in the admissions office was almost too nice, almost like a robot...but I guess that is ideal.

Appearance of Campus:

All of the buildings use the same gothic architecture, and I love how the University builds all of the new buildings to look like the old ones. The campus reminds me of London...

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

I have never seen greener grass, and there is almost always a Wash U maintenance employee wherever you look.

Dormitories:

The Dormitories were very clean. There are two different styles, old and new, but they both have the same square footage. The common rooms in the ground level seem really "chill-able".

Security/Safety:

Every so often in a post along a pathway there is a little box with a red bottom which, if pressed, summons the campus police.

Overall Campus Impression:

I could totally see myself living there for four years.

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:

Right next to campus is Forest Park, which is one of the countries largest public parks and is loaded with free stuff to do (science museum, zoo, etc)

City/Town/Community:

My favorite aspect of the town is how it feels secluded yet you are 10 minutes away from downtown St. Louis.

Campus Visit Notes for Washington University in St. Louis

Visit Description:

Just so I don't forget, a few interesting things about campus: most of the buildings are national historic places, the track complex on campus is where the 1908 Olympics were held, and the lecture hall we went in looked exactly like the one in Indiana Jones.

The whole campus has wireless internet and all of the dorms have high speed internet ports. Every student gets an ID card and a building pass card which gets you into your dorm and all of the buildings on campus. There is this main hall right in front of the quad which I think is the most beautiful thing ever...it looks like a French train depot on the inside.

As for the dorms, their are old and new style dorms. The old style dorms are a whole hallway of dorms with a communal bathroom at the end of the hallway. The new style dorms are two dorms which share a bathroom in the middle. We saw the new style dorms. Our tour guide, a student, really loved her new style dorm, but she said that she has gotten in arguments with people about which dorms are the best. Both of the style's dorm rooms have the same square footage, but the old style are square and the new style are rectangular.

There are 16 different places to eat on campus, but it feels like there is somewhere every corner cause the campus isn't that big. There is a system of meal cards which can be loaded with points, and all of the food on campus has a point value which is just deducted from your card (and you can ask your parents for more points).

All Wash U students get a free public transportation card, so practically the whole city is accessible for free. There are also buses which go from the campus right to downtown St. Louis which are operated by the school.

If one has another person and the specific fee, a student group can be formed, which leads to endless opportunities...but I think it would be very hard to not be happy with the PLETHORA of student groups the school offers.

Interestingly, the hotel we stayed at was not on the recommended list given by Wash U, yet it is so close.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

I stayed at a Hampton Inn which is 4 minutes away from campus, on Oakland ave. I love the location cause I am so close to the school and I can see downtown out of my window.
