Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: Yes - Real laid back, informative, only asked me 3 real questions the whole 30 minutes. Most was just conversation about different majors and opportunities available. She was a professor, kind of offbeat.

Information Session: Yes - Lasted an hour and a half, the admissions officer was really dodgy with her answers, but overall she did well. They painted Wash U out to be all about RESEARCH, which took me by surprise.

Campus Tour: Yes - Cool asian girl who rambled on and on with lots of "ummmm"s and "ahhhh"s. The tour kind of sucked, and it rained. Couldn't get in many of the buildings, and the dorms were mus

They mean well and are really friendly people, but they didn't come across as being all that intelligent surprisingly.

Very in your face, but in a good way. They sat down with us at lunch and really made themselves available to those who wanted that kinda thing.

Appearance of Campus:

Most disappointed in these next two aspects. As a premier university, Wash U's campus was lame. All academic buildings look the exact same, the dorms are an obnoxious orange color, and continued

Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:

CONSTRUCTION EVERYWHERE...we walked through mud, cones were lying around in random areas. Buildings from the 50s hadn't been updated. better than most but COME ON. Quads looked bland, little art.

Dormitories:

Hotel-like, most are doubles with 4 ppl sharing 1 bathroom. I hate how colleges show you unused brand new dorms that smell like new cars, but whatever I'm used to it. Coed floors, single sex suit

Security/Safety:

? blue light system, far from the real bad StL

Overall Campus Impression:

Campus itself was uninspiring. Many state schools have better campuses. The friendliness of everyone was refreshing tho....reminds me of home in the South :). Nobody takes themselves too seriously

Off-Campus:

Area Immediately Around Campus:

Shopping are is everything you'd want. Plenty of bars, shops, restaurants you name it. Forest Park is all free, it's way bigger than Central Park, and it borders campus. Seriously, it has it

City/Town/Community:

St. L, while not being the greatest city ever, has all the attractions of many major cities. Some students can go without even feeling like theyre in a city if they want, but free metro rides there.

Campus Visit Notes for Washington University in St. Louis

Visit Description:

I went for a Pre-Engineering day. I don't recommend it. 400 ppl (including parents) were there, and really it was hard to talk to people one on one. It was rainy, but they gave us umbrellas, which was nice. I was surprised by the emphasis on research there. Soooo many people double major and do minors, and I liked how engineers get to take a lot of liberal arts courses as well. Job placement is great, location is great, campus is decent. Overall, I didn't ask to pitch a tent there and spend the rest of my educational career there, but it certainly was interesting enough to make me apply.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

fine

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

they gave us pizza for lunch :/

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):
