Visit Activities:

Admissions Interview: No - My son never received one, as we live about an hour outside of Austin, TX.

Information Session: Yes - Conducted by a student. Very informative, but perhaps she was a little naive as to how hard it is to actually get accepted. see below for more...

Campus Tour: Yes - It was freezing! But our guide was hillarious and had a warm, endearing personality. He was able to weave all the facts we needed to know together with funny antidotes, making the cold very bearable.

Classroom Visit: No - It was spring break.

Everything seemed fine - although it was very, very cold, so we didn't linger to nitpick!!

did not see inside of a dorm

Security/Safety:

Seemed to have proper security measures in place for students/visitors who use good common sense. But it is in the heart of a city with a high crime rate, so you can't take your safety for grante

Campus Visit Notes for Yale University

Visit Description:

Our admissions briefing had a huge group of visitors, so we all had to leave the admissions building and travel about 5 blocks to a lecture hall. Some of the other parents seemed miffed at this inconvenience; I was just happy that Yale was able to accomodate everyone and had a back-up plan for the large spring break crowd.

The young lady who gave our brief was a senior at Yale. As I wrote, she seemed a little naive as to how difficult it is to get into Yale, after all, everyone she knows got in! When asked about what test scores would be appropriate for an applicant, she said not to worry about scores - just apply! So that was not helpful. But she did know alot about course levels, typical scheduling, etc. She was also very active volunteering off campus, so that was a good insight into how serving the public is valued at Yale.

Overall, a fairly good impression, but since she's a student, not quite as professional as the brief at other Ivies we visited.

Hotel/Lodging Recommendations or Comments:

We stayed in New York with friends and just were at Yale for the day.

Dining/Restaurant Recommendations or Comments:

Found a wonderful bagel shop/chain in town and we were able to get great coffee to go for breakfast.

Other Comments (Transportation, local attractions, parking, etc.):

Easy to get to. Parking was easy, but I suspect that was because it was spring break.
