Information Session:
Yes - The info session was okay. After attending four info sessions, they start to sound the same. Plus, I knew everything he was saying already because I have virtually memorized the Yale website.
Campus Tour:
Yes - It was AMAZING. Definitely the best out of the 5 I've been on. The tour guide was amazing: friendly, funny, cool. The spots he took us too were beautiful and it was very informative.
Classroom Visit:
Yes - We visited a small lecture class. It was okay, smaller than I expected, which was good. It wasn't too engaging, but I don't like lectures in general. I could see how it would be interesting,

Friendliness/Courtesy of Students:

The two students at the Visitors Center were VERY friendly and helpful. We asked some students for directions and they too seemed friendly. We visited a friend's dorm and his roommate was nice to
Friendliness/Courtesy of Staff:
4 - Very Good
The lady at the info desk at the Admissions Office was VERY nice. The teacher that taught the lecture we visited seemed very approachable. He was speaking to some students at the beginning of class.
Appearance of Campus:
5 - Excellent
The buildings are AMAZING. I loved them. The courtyard of the Silliman College was BEAUTIFUL. I fell in love with it. The libraries are spectacular too - completely amazing, in my opinion.
Building/Facilities Maintenance/Cleanliness:
5 - Excellent
The buildings that I saw were very well kept. The Visitors Center was clean and the Silliman Common Room was SPECTACULAR; very well kept. The Calhoun dorm on Old Campus looked really nice as well.
Dormitories:
4 - Very Good
I've had nightmares about college dorms but the ones I saw were very nice and spacious. A common room with three doubles. I didn't like the fact that there weren't private bathrooms, th
Security/Safety:
4 - Very Good
The campus seemed secure. Blue lights of course and necessary precautions seemed to be taken. If you have street smarts, I don't see why you wouldn't be safe on campus.
Overall Campus Impression:
5 - Excellent
Overall, I thought Yale was amazing. I've been in love with Yale for a year now and after visiting am going to apply EA. As soon as I walked on campus, I just clicked and it felt right.
Off-Campus:
Area Immediately Around Campus:
4 - Very Good
After all the negative talk about New Haven, I thought that the area was good. Being a New Yorker, I didn't think it was much different than New York. A lot of shops very near to campus and hospi
City/Town/Community:
3 - Good
I didn't see all of New Haven, but once again, it didn't look any different than New York to me. I would definitely love to venture out of the Yale bubble and meet some locals.
Campus Visit Notes for Yale University
Visit Description:
Despite what a lot of people have said, I loved Yale and New Haven. It is clearly academically sound, it has a beautiful campus, and was very social. Personally, I didn't think New Haven was bad. We walked from the Amtrak train station to the campus and felt completely safe the whole way there (although a bit cold). We also ventured a bit off campus in search of a Radio Shack and also felt safe the whole way to Staples (we didn't actually find Radio Shack).
The tour guide was very nice, very informative, very exciting. I really liked him. If most Yalies are like him, then I know that I'm going to love it.
We visited a friend who was apparently having difficulty adjusting to college life. Coming from a high school where most teachers knew who he was and he always had a teacher to go to for anything, he had trouble dealing with a different environment. I'm not sure whether that is the norm or not, but I just thought it'd be interesting to note.
Finally, as I've mentioned above, Yale looks great, feels great, and I personally feel that it is an amazing college. I did not feel unsafe at all while on campus and think that those who call New Haven "dangerous" are simple people from suburban America, or those not accustomed to city life (I can assure you, NYC is not any safer than New Haven).
