brokenapertures -- Though I'm probably not the best for critiquing photography (I can't take a decent photo to save my life), I gotta say that I loooooooooove the last two digital layering photos.
With the "mixing fashion with genders" photos, is it a series that explores androgyny or gender roles?
edit: I keep going back to look at the first photo from the "mixing fashion with genders" set -- It's a ridiculously beautiful photo with an absolutely exquisite model! Luminous!

Haha, thanks!
It's really up to your interpretation. I would say probably that it explores both androgyny AND gender roles. I chose that title because the blonde model is a guy, but looks like a girl and is playing the girl in the photossss!

The blonde model is a guy? I thought so, how lovely.
I really like the concept of that set and I would look forward to seeing more if you're going to be expanding on that theme. Kudos, and keep it up!

I use the Canon Rebel XT...which is very very worn. Just haven't been able to afford a newer camera....About 30,000 photos have come from it. Haha. Lenses include the 16-35 f/2.8, 60mm f/2.8, and 50mm f/1.8.
Spruce, I use photoshop for everythingggg. I'm one of those people who never lets anyone see a photo that's not film unedited. Ever.

I posted my "portfolio," granted its very limited and unfocused at the moment, does anyone have suggestions on directions I should take or ways to hone my eye? I've limited photographic resources in my area (my college doesn't even have a photography club) so I'm definitely looking for advice from people with more experience than me.
Apologies if this is off topic, since it's not really a portfolio that is going to be used for college admissions but it seems that the thread has become very photo-centric at the moment anyway.

Since you have an affinity for nature photography, I would say to search the internet and look at some professional nature and landscape photography. The photos you have on your Flickr lack that interesting punch. Sure they have the "basic elements" of photography - line, shape, form, etc... but there is no real factor that makes it interesting to the eye. If you look at others' work, you can teach yourself to have a more artistic eye that sees things that aren't noticeable at first glance, perhaps. Original composition is key for you to pursue any kind of photography, which I'm sure you know. You want to create the image that has never ever been taken. Oh, and use more vivid colors says my friend.

BA -This is some of my daughter's photography...she's a junior - the stuff on the first few pages were taken when she was a sophomore. She has the same camera and some of the same lenses as you...in addition she has a 75-135mm. Many of her macros were taken with a reverse kit lens - she has a story re this that's linked on the front page.
Are your lens Canon brand?
Timothy & BA, I think JPGmag is a super place to get constructive, positive feedback from professionals and advanced hobbyists from all over the world. Great community there.
