Liberal Arts Colleges with Good Art Departments

My goal in the beginning of my high school career was to go to an art college. Now a senior, there isn't that appeal in going to a school with a curriculum of mostly fine arts.

I do want to study art, but I don't want to limit myself.
So, where should I look?

If you don't mind small town in Midwest plus sick and/or intimidated by pretensions art-y kids and rude impersonal staff, faculty and townsfolk, go see Knox.
Surprised myself but was this breath of fresh air after bunch of New England schools.
Their studios are old but roomy and well equipped, senior show brochure pays individual attention to everyone and works are pretty good, beautifully photographed and obviously someone designed it intensively to small details. If no one told you, you’d think it came from some art school.
What I learned is, even at top LACs supposed to be “strong” in visual art, there are handful faculties and disciplines, 10 –20 kids per class.
“small” by numbers does not mean much, what count is contents and who you meet when, then how you’d utilize it. You never ever know “where”

Dont know if you are Midwest or not, but if you are looking for a great smallish (3500?) LAC, that has amazing stats in MANY areas (study abroad, Rhodes Scholar, PHd placements, White House Internships, etc), and has a very good Arts Programs with very personable Instructors, check out St Olaf in Minn. My daughter did not pick there for other reasons, but I think for LAC's, it would have been her #1 choice. There is a pretty good description in the book that is titled something like "100 colleges that change lives" or something similar. P.S. Great book if you are looking for a great smaller college

No. Every post on CC has to have at least ten characters, so people will say "ten char" to bring a short post up to par. So they are just saying Yale is a good art school.

Also check out Wesleyan.

Denison (nice new facility)
Mad props for Denison...my sister goes there (waitlisted and accepted...dreams do come true!) and it's amazing. Very expensive though. Math/science requirements are pretty minimal, if that's not your thing.

i've actually heard arts at weslyan are pretty limited, i.e. some classes are only offered every other year etc. you do have free rein with a senior project though. or something like that.

There is this queen of painting who won’t let you paint if she doesn’t like your style. But there are other lovely faculties make up for that loss.
Getting in Wes and being in Wes is what you are going for, everything else are frosting and sprinkle.
And please, put the “e” between l and y now on. Don’t make ESL retard correct your spelling.
