Design at Carnegie Mellon?

I'm thinking of applying to the CFA at Carnegie Mellon for communications design.

Are they any people already in the program who can shed some light on the admissions process for design? And is CMU's design program difficult to get into?

Several years ago my daughter got into the CMU program but chose to go elsewhere. We found that you need about a 1250+ for CR and Math SATs and about a 3.5 unweighted GPA or better. In addition, the portfolio evaluation is about half of the admission decision. Follow CMU's requirements for the portfolio to the letter. When they say that want a lot of drawing from observation, they mean it. Don't submit lots of photos, graphic arts, or other types of steps in lieu of what is required.
