Audition Requirements

I cant find the audition requirements on the website. Do they not tell you what they are until you've been invited?

If you go to this Wagner admissions page: http://www.wagner.edu/admissions/apply you can find a link to the Theatre Audition Requirements. Here is what you will find when you get there:

Quote:
Audition Guidelines for Wagner College Theatre
Fall 2008 Prospective Freshmen

Students will be invited to interview and/or audition only if they meet Wagner College Admissions eligibility standards. Potential students should address all preliminary inquiries to the Admissions Office at 718-390-3411.

Theatre Performance

WHEN: This year’s audition day will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Invitations will be sent to all invited students in January, depending on the results of your application to the College.

WHERE: Check-in will be in Main Hall rooms 6 and 7 on the Wagner College campus.

PLEASE PREPARE
-Two monologues of approximately one minute in length. Show your best work, regardless of genre or period. You may be asked for only one, so plan on performing the piece that displays your best work.

-Two Broadway musical selections of 16 bars in length, one from an up-tempo song and the other from a ballad. You may be asked for only one, so plan on performing the piece that displays your best work.

-Each applicant will be required to attend a Dance/Movement evaluation designed to evaluate potential. Nothing need be prepared, but appropriate dance attire is required.

If unable to attend Audition Day on Sunday, February 24, please submit, to the Admissions Office, a DVD or VHS videotape including:

• one 16 bar musical selection
• one monologue of approximately one minute in length
• a few words on why you are interested in pursuing your education at Wagner College
• a demonstration of your movement or dance abilities

Please include, with the video recording, a letter that contains a contact phone number and e-mail address. Full video submission guidelines are also available at the Wagner College Theatre website or by contacting Professor David McDonald at dmcdonal@wagner.edu.

Men's audition clothes?

What are appropriate dance/movement clothes for young men in auditions? Is it likely they'll be given a chance to change clothes? DS is not a stick, not heavy, just average. Sweats seem best for dancing, but hardly appropriate presentation for monologues/singing. He's wearing dark slacks and a button-up shirt otherwise. Thanks!

Most young men during my D's auditions this past fall wore black/dark colored jazz pants with a fitted t-shirt or tank top style top (white or black). Most dance stores have these in stock. Most schools will advise against wearing sweats for the actual dance audition (they are ok for warm ups).

Thanks MTGM!! We can do that. He'll need at least one pair of jazz pants for next year anyway. There's a part of me that can't believe how close this all is. We live in the hills and he doesn't drive (I can't afford the insurance), so when he's at school he'll be able to take dance classes etc.
