chances of getting in?

So, basically my test scores are awful but I go to a very challenging school that doesn't let out until 4:30 because we take extra classes in a special concentration. I've got a good GPA, I volunteer, I've held a job working in a restaurant since I turned 16. I'm applying Early Decision to W&L and I've known that I want to go there since my dad forced me to look at it (because he went there). Basically, I have really great recs and (I think) a pretty good resume EXCEPT for my test scores, because I just don't do well in standardized tests. Is that going to completely kill my chances at admission? I mean, really. I want this so badly, I just feel that I didn't make the cut because of my test scores. Thoughts?

uh
Okay, I just retook the ACT last month and haven't gotten my scores back, but the first time I took it I got a 28? And my SATs are M: 620 W: 680 CR: 670. So basically my scores are not so hot. I mean, do you think that's bad enough that I have no chance at all? Or will they consider that the rest of my stuff is pretty good? Are you applying ED too?

My scores were similar (some a little higher, some a little lower, avg about the same), and I was also a legacy, and I got in. This was a while ago, though, the school's gotten more competitive. Scores aren't the be-all, end-all of admissions. Write a killer essay, make sure you visit and interview. Have your dad send money

I mean, I'm not trying to say I'll get in despite my scores because I'm a legacy. I go to an arts school for creative writing and my focus for my senior thesis is on personal essays. So I guess I'm pretty confident in my essay. And I've visited campus like 3 times in the past year, I've had an interview. I'm Early Decision. Do I still have a shot? Like, whatsoever?
Thanks for responding though, beautyistruth. To know that your scores are vaguely similar to mine and you got in is great!

I don't think they will hamper you too much, aswagga. I'm applying early decision also. I'm only sending ACT, my SAT was 60 points lower than yours. What are your subject test scores? Mine were mediocre, lit 630 Math 1 660. ACT 30 from April 2009 waiting back on October 2009. Couple questions: Are you a boy or girl? Where are you from? Hope we both get in

I just want to get in so badly- I'm sure you understand. My name's Allison. I'm from Alabama. What about you? And good luck with the ED. Let me know in December if you're in or not and I'll tell you too!

Also: my subject test scores are pretty awful- I put off taking them until last month so that was a bad move on my part. US history - 610, lit - 650. Definitely should have taken those earlier, my bad.

We should start a W&L ED I thread soon. I'm from NJ obviously, my names Freddy. Interesting fact: W&L tries to keep its male and female percentage equal. That means in admissions males and females aren't competing against each other.

OH GOOD we can be friends and not have that underlying competition thing. WHy do you like W&L/why did you start looking at it, etc? And yes, that thread sounds like a winning idea. So we can find more of our kind hahah

Yeah... Well I visited this summer and the campus really captivated me. I also really like the greek scene, which seems very inclusive and fun. My school has a very similar honor code, and i've always loved that about it. How about you?

When I started looking at schools I sort of convinced myself I wasn't going to like W&L because my dad wanted me to. But then I got there and it just felt right, you know? And I'm really interested in the history of the school and I love the campus and how safe and beautiful and livable it feels. It just seems like W&L is a really great community.

I used to play soccer on a rec league but it got too hard to schedule since I have class every day until 4:30 and my school doesn't have any sports. I'm assuming you play soccer? hahah
