I am majoring in finance, and I might change to biomedical or something biology...because I want to go to medical school.

What separates this school from Penn State or University of Pittsubgh or any state school for that matter?

How will having a undergrad degree from WashU benefit me?

Well, still no replies after a full day. You deserve some sort of reply.

First, you need to be clear with your parents that you respect their financial limitations. If you are going to accept their financial support, then you are obligated to be appreciative and respectful of their limits.

Past that, I believe the benefits of a more respected institution are clear. It is always true that you can do very well and succeed from any school. Yet the bottom line is that kids from more academically strong schools will have more opportunities. So it isn't about options; you will have good options whereever you go. It is about odds. Coming out of Wash U with good grades is an advantage over kids coming out of most state schools. That is just the way the world works.

I have one S at a state school and one at Wash U. Both are happy with their choices. You will do fine anywhere, but if you go to Pitt or Penn St, you will need to be more disciplined if you want to compete with kids from a place like Wash U coming out.

wash u has more easily accessible opportunities and facilities...i think it may be worth the investment for going into med school

but im also having the same conflict with berkeley vs. wash u. is there anything else we should be considering?

If paying for WashU is a concern, contact Bill Witbrodt and tell him how you're trying to make a decision between your local state school and WashU and you're inclined to go to the state school because of the cost. There's a good chance he'll give you more financial aid as an incentive to go to WashU.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it. I don't think my parents believe that going to a "brand name" school is better than going to a state school. Yes, the financial aspect is a limiting factor; however, we are a middle class family. Is it still possible to get a decent package?
