Internships and summer jobs

Wash U is still a regional school, outside the St. Louis area, engineering students and students of other scientific fields, have a hard time to find internships or summer jobs related to their careers. Alumni is trying to reverse that situation, but still only a handful of students get what they wish for, the rest can’t find a good summer occupation, nor a good study program with credits recognized back to campus.

Any data on this specifically?

I know plenty of engineers and science majors either in non midwest internships or research for the summer.

Oncampus and purple, could you please give more data to pass it to my engineers friends? They are complaining about that. Do you know in which companies?

You really just have to search for them yourself. I know a couple of friends who are doing research at some top tier universities this summer.(there are usually applications you have to fill out and the deadline is long past) However, it is not too late to do research here @ WashU over the summer. (these are typically easy to get..you just need to talk to a professor) As for internships there those who got excellent internships at Microsoft/Google/Genetech/Northrop/Citibank etc...a bunch of good companies.
As for me, I am staying at WashU doing research this summer.

You're talking about other universities, but what about Wash U?
Outside St. Louis area no one has internships from those companies, I'm sure if they do. they already won the Career Center's iPod offered.

Nope, I'm not an engineer, I'm in the business school, and I'll be in NYC this summer working in marketing.

Trapper - I think purple was referring to students from WashU doing research at other schools for the summer, which is a popular option. I know a number of engineers are at Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, Citi, a number of other finance companies, Deloitte, and Boeing for the summer. Out of all of those, Boeing's the only one in St. Louis.
