I doubt any school sees NMSF as much more than another SAT score. Because, that is basically what it is. The scholarships are nice. IF you were one of only a few in your class to get it, you could mention that. But, at the end of the day it is probably the same as a high/comparable SAT.

Logically, the schools *should* view NMSF as just another SAT score; that's exactly what it is. Nonetheless some schools will fall all over themselves to get you to matriculate with them if you are a NMSF or NMF.

Given Wash U's selectivity, they probably do not care over there if you are a NMSF. If you have a high SAT score it will mean the same thing. However, the College Plans Reporting Service that comes with NMSF (or NMC) is a useful way to show Wash U that you are interested. The place is definitely big on demonstrated student interest.

NMSF will probably give you a leg up, msot awards do, but it wont change anything significantly. I had a friend who was a NMSF who got in as well, but he got a lot less money than I did.

Washington University DOES support National Merit Scholarships.

Here's a link to their scholarship opportunities:

! Thanks for pointing that out tactics. I missed it by only checking their "Scholarships and Grants" section.
