Humanities at WashU and JHU

I'm putting together the college list and have WashU vs. JHU, where I'd like to pick one or the other. Which one is stronger in liberal arts, and how do they compare admission-wise...are they both generally the same in degree of difficulty to gain acceptance (I need to temper my list with less-daunting acceptance rates, though I know neither are a given)

Having placed this in the WashU forum, you're going to get more people advocating choosing WashU

indeed. Of course WashU is stronger in liberal arts. THe only area that JHU possibly can challenge washU is medicine.

What kind of humanities?

JHU is nationally known for international relations. It has a better French program. It has top-notch scholars in the history department.

Wash U has a better, more extensive program in Chinese and Arabic.

Don't know if any of this is relevant to you. My D was interested in both schools and chose Wash U b/c it was better in what she was interested in and she preferred the Wash U campus and student body.

Since Wash U has both EDI and EDII, and JHU has only EDI, your best bet strategically is JHU EDI and, if necessary, WASH U EDII.

At this point I think Wash U has a lower admissions rate. However, JHU is significantly overenrolled for fall 2005, so they may be admitting a smaller class for fall 2006.

So, as is true for everyone, find some safeties that you like.
