Help! No Research!

I want to apply for the Moog Fellowship to WashU, but for the 750 word essay they ask for a description of a research project I was recently involved in or would like to participate in. I live in a dinky little town in SoCal with very limited resources; I don't think anyone here has even heard of a high school student doing research outside of class. Is it crucial that I have done research? Should I seek one out quickly? The closest research universities are two hours away in any direction.

write about one you would like to be involved in. Maybe, look at the washu website and see what kind of research you could get involved in as a freshman and gear it that way.
