My friend who goes there said I would get in just fine with a 4.0 at SIUE across the river. That they wouldn't worry about it, just make me take calculus there. I want to transfer there my sophmore year. Have bad High school gpa and sat, but college I'm doing excellent.

NO...lol i know from experience. It probably can be done but it is very difficult.

Does anyone havea definitive answer to this? I do not want to be faced with an automatic rejection for having not completed calc II yet. (I would this summer if possible) If that is the case I will apply to A+S instead.

id suggest you apply for A&S. You will still be able to talk Olin classes (even major in Olin) as an A&S student, and if you want to transfer to Olin later, you'll easily be able to. I think they're pretty strict about the Calc requirement

My S took only half a year of calc in HS, not high level. Got accepted to Olin, is a freshman now. When he got to Wash U he took placement test, scored as borderline to take first course in calc series vs. second course in series. He opted to take first course in series and enrolled in their Calc 131 which is first course in calc series you take if you want to take lots of economics which he may want to do. Olin had pushed him to take the 120 series which I believe is more typical for Olin students. Anyway, last semester he broke his thumb and had to take an incomplete in math because that was the one course he really couldn't do without being able to write. So as a second semester freshman he is still just taking Calc 131, and all is well.

soproudofkids, I think that your example is a special case.

For one, entering freshman can get accepted to Olin without having any Calc. With that being said, if your son is a freshman, already enrolled in Olin, then the Calc requirement is needed to transfer into Olin doesn't apply to him (since he is already enrolled in Olin).

Transfers into Olin (from WU schools or other schools), generally are required to have up to Calc II already completed (among other requirements). I am sure there are examples of special cases when this rule hasn't applied; however, I am sure they are strict about the rule because it is important for students to have Calc II done if they don't start in Olin as a first semester freshman because it is a pre-req for a lot of business courses.

I would like to again agree with JeffWUn in on both accounts. As a student, as an ervin, etc.

I was a student interested in Olin and had taken Calc and simply done badly and was admitted to A&S instead of Olin. It worked out well for me but Olin has been very stringent about their calc requirements in the past
