HELP: Parents got divorced/ Dad is unwilling to help with the tuition

I have been admitted to Wellesley, and since my household income has been very low, I received a very generous financial aid package. I'll be able to afford the first year of the college, but I'm not sure about the following years.

I have been adopted, and my adoptive parents recently got divorced. The problem is that my dad is planning to leave the house and not even communicate with us. Obviously, he will never fill out the noncustodial parent form or contribute to my tuition. I'm just an adopted child who has been living with him for 3 years, so he doesn't really regard me as his own child.

My mom will support my sister and me. She has a health issue, so she'll earn about 20k at most. I'm not sure about how much my dad will make..

I searched if there is a waiver form, but I can't find it for Wellesley. (I don't even know if I'm eligible) I'm just so stressed about this right now..If anyone has any knowledge about these issues, please help me!

Sounds like you have a lot to deal with right now. I'm glad the first year your aid will be enough.

On Tuesday (since Monday is a holiday) you can contact the Financial Aid office to ask your questions. Next year my D will be in her fourth year at Wellesley. I have found their Financial Aid office to be very helpful, generous, and understanding. You are fortunate to have been admitted to Wellesley, because they have resources available to help you and also an attitude/mission to make it work.

My D has been so grateful for the aid Wellesley has provided to make her incredible educational opportunity possible. She hopes she will be in a position to help future students have the same opportunities.

Yeah, I agree with college_query. Contact the Financial Aid office and explain your situation. They'll probably send you a Financial Aid worksheet to fill out and then they can make adjustments to your financial aid package (possibly for this year). Good luck! I've worked with the Financial Aid office personally and they're incredibly helpful.

I agree that you should contact Wellesley's financial aid office ASAP. Get (in writing) that they will work with you in future years. If you are going to get "stuck" financially in the future, it's better to know this now before you attend any classes.

What if it affects her Financial package this year? I think it would be better to wait until next year.

Your aid for the 2012-2013 year is determined by income in 2011. What happens in 2012 will impact aid for 2013-14.
