In my experience, Wellesley is just as widely recognized (if not more so) than Northwestern or the University of Chicago, at least here in the United States.
Wellesley is one of the group of Seven Sisters (Wellesley, Barnard, Smith, Vassar, Radcliffe, Mt. Holyoke, Bryn Mawr), which were considered the female equivalent of the Ivy League (Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc.) before the Ivy League went co-ed.
