Help getting to Cornell by public transportation?

My daughter at Wesleyan would like to visit a friend at Cornell but has no car. I'm sure there is no straight shot to Cornell (or Ithaca), but is it possible by some combination of train and bus? Has anyone accomplished this feat?

She can get to New Haven with the shuttle from Wesleyan Fri-Sun, and take Metro North to NYC. I think there's some sort of express transportation between Cornell campuses in NYC and Ithaca. I know there's an Amtrak station near Wes, about 7 miles, which if she could somehow get to the Syracuse Amtrak station (transfers may be necessary) then she can take a bus to Cornell.
