Train to NYC?

How hard is it to get to the nearest train station and go to NYC on the weekend? Do many people go? I know there's supposed to be too much going on all over the campus to want to leave, but I know if I were there I would want to get away to the city and learn about it. Would I find people to come with?

it takes some planning, but it's not impossible.

there is a weekly shuttle from campus to the New Haven station (about 35 minutes away) Fridays-Sundays, but it only leaves once a day. (New Haven is on the metro-north line that goes into Grand Central). if you or someone you know has a car, the train station in Meriden is only 15 minutes away. Meriden is an Amtrak station so it'd be more expensive than leaving from New Haven: you could take either the Amtrak to New Haven and switch to metro-north, or take Amtrak all the way to Penn Station. a cab to Meriden is sort of expensive, but there is also the public m-link bus that goes to Meriden. you can also check the rideboard. we're also getting zipcars this year but I don't really know how that system works.

I think most people take the shuttle to New Haven or find a ride to Meriden.

people do go to NYC sometimes, so it's very likely you could find people to come with. there are also tons of people from the city here. I know a lot of people from other states that stayed with New Yorkers over our fall break which just ended.
