What are my chances of getting into CSU CHICO?

I'm a transfer student from a CC and my current gpa is 2.81. What are my honest chances of getting into CSU Chico? I heard their acceptance rate for 2009 was 88%.

If you are applying from the CSU Chico service area your chances of acceptance are pretty good. If you are not in their service area I think your chances are only fair.

What do you mean fair? Isn't it always like that with any college? There are better chances for local students.

I probably should have said 50% rather than "fair" and 90% rather than "good". Right now it is awful hard to judge the chances of someone being able to get accepted as a transfer to a CSU unless their GPAs were really high (over 3.7) or really low( under 2.5) because of the steep budgets cuts the state imposed on the CSUs over the past two years forcing them to cut enrollment by 40,000 students. That has resulted in a situation where it often takes a higher GPA to get into certain CSUs if you are not in their service area than it takes to transfer to a UC which do not have service areas. The new budget proposal would restore enough funds for the CSUs to admit about 30,000 more students. If it passes it will reduce some of the competitive pressure for transfer students applying to CSUs.

This is an eye opener. Everyone was telling me that it was fairly easy to get into Chico. Everyone has been telling me that their acceptance rate is fairly high.

Now, thank you for the information
