What are my chances of getting into the University of Michigan?

I'm a half Spanish half American white male. I've lived in Madrid spain my whole life but have gone to high school in the us (new York) all 4 years. My school has been ranked in the top 500 public schools in the country for many years now. I have a 87 unweighted avg and a 96 weighted. I will have taken 8 AP's by the time I graduate. I got a 30 on my ACT's. Im 30th in a class of 100 ( ik thats bad) I'm in love with umichigan, what are my chances of getting in?

Michigan is not that hard to get into, at least compared to other top schools.

I think you have a reasonable shot.

50-50

Try Wash U also.

Thanks! Will my poor class rank and unweighted gpa have a large effect on the admissions process?

Class rank will have no relevance; UMich does not consider. uW GPA, on the other hand, will probably lead to a deferral in EA and then a waitlist in RD.....sorry but your competition in NYS, regardless of your HS will have much higher GPA's.

Only caveat: if your HS has already had students accepted with your UW GPA in the past....an 87 translates to a B+ which is a 3.3 UW GPA. UMiCh avg UW GPA is approx 3.78.

Check with your guidance office to see who was accepted this year.....maybe your school has a relationship where your GPA is reconsidered in the context of your school. Unlikely, but can't hurt to check! Hope that helps!
