Chance an Average rising senior!!

I WILL CHANCE BACK!

So in comparison to my peers here on CC, my grades and stats are painfully average, I am an Asian female from California

GPA: 3.1 UW, 3.3 W (3.45 UC GPA)
Based on the UC calculator, I am currently in the top 9% of California Graduates which makes me ELC eligible (I think?)

Freshman Year

Honors English B/B
Honors Geometry C/C
Honors Global Studies/ Health B/A
Latin I B/B
Biology B/B
Debate A/B

Sophomore Year
English A/A
Chemistry B/B
AP World C/B
Latin II B/B
Algebra II B/B

Junior Year
Honors Precalculus B/C
AP Biology B/B
AP US History B/B
AP Human Geo B/B
Anatomy/ Physiology B/B
English A/B

Senior Year
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus AB
AP Government
AP Macroeconomics
Physics
English
Ceramics

In total I would have taken 12 AP/Honors classes
(8 AP Classes and 4 Honors)

Test Scores

SAT: (1st time) 1970 - 690 CR, 650 M, 630 W
(2nd time) 2010- 700 CR, 680 M, 630 W

SAT II: 710 US History, 710 Biology

AP Tests
World History- 5

Extracurriculars: Volunteer at the Science Museum (since 8th grade), Vice President of UNICEF club on campus (elected position), played violin for 10 years, Chemistry tutor, Junior Varsity swim team captain, coordinator for woman's self defense clinic in our community, started the INTERACT club on campus, VBS volunteer for 3 years at church,

I could get really good letters of rec.

No way are Oberlin, Barnard, Kenyon, and Mt. Holyoke matches. I'm sure you could get into a couple of the lower UCs, but probably not Berkeley/UCLA/UCSD. Maybe USF, Baylor, and Purdue are matches.

-Any UC's - Merced, Riverside, SC, Maybe Davis
-Any CSU's - They use an algorithm which take only GPA and SAT score. you should be able to find these out for yourself
-Fordham
-NYU - high reach
-BU - high reach
-University of San Francisco - reach
-Baylor - reach
-Purdue - High match
-Smith - reach
-Bryn Mawr - reach
-Mt Holyoke - reach
-Kenyon - reach
-Oberlin - reach
-Barnard - reach
-Sarah Lawrence - reach

I'll be realistic. You made a really bad mistake when selecting classes. Bs in a regular course does not mean you should take honors or AP the next year.

You seemed to slack off basically all the time. Your SAT score show that you are smart, but your GPA shows that you didn't apply your self at all (unless of course you school does a lot of grade deflation). This means you basically won't get in at any of the places you listed.

Your ECs are not stellar but they are not the worst in the world. BTW 8th grade activities don't count. Only 9-12 activities count.

You are definitely not in the top 9% of CA graduates. If you have seen the Bay Area high schools and the high schools in the richer parts of the LA area you would know that.

Sorry to be so negative. It's just my honest take on the application. I think that if you go to a community college for a year or two and you can get a 3.8+ GPA, then you have a very good shot at transfer to the places you.

Still, best of luck to you in figuring out what you are going to do!
Chance me back?

lol its all good man
I just took the calculator on the UC website and thats what it told me so...
yeah

and I live in South Bay (which let me tell you sucks butt..lol) tons of competition here

I know 8th grade activities don't count, I just said that I've been doing said activity since my 8th grade year( still continuing to this day)

Thanks for your help anyways!!

Quintamonius has NO clue what he's talking about! Not EVERY school you're considering is a reach! You don't need to go to community college with a 2000+ SAT lol... Kind of a sad post, most people are trolling, but if he's trolling, he sucks at it.

I'd say you're in at all CSUs, have a decent shot at all UCs except UCB, UCLA, and UCSD. Merced, Riverside, and UCSC are definitely safeties. So is Purdue.

NYU, Bryn Mawr, Kenyon, and Barnard are reaches, as well as Oberlin. Kenyon and Bryn Mawr are pretty low reaches, ahah. UCLA, UCSD, and UCB are all high reaches.

USF, Baylor, BU, Mt. Holyoke, and Fordham are all matches/targets. Smith falls into the high match category, Mt. Holyoke might too.

With your GPA though, nothing's sure, so a lot of your match and reach schools could go either way... Write amazing essays to make up for that GPA, since your SAT shows you're qualified. Best of luck, and remember to love thy safeties!

I think you're a great candidate for those schools; however, I would try to boost up the SAT score and GPA. Nice extracurriculars, though!

i'm from new jersey and have visited fordham and nyu. but i'm curious as to what fordham's reputation is like on the west coast! its overrated here, and you seem like a shoo-in. boost up your gpa a bit and i think you could get into nyu. i know someone who got accepted with a 3.3 gpa, 2210 SATs, and extracurriculars similar to yours.

@termah420 yeah.. i don't think many people know about fordham here.. I was raised on the East Coast and I have family in NYC, so that's how I know about it..but I feel like there's a significantly lower pool from the west coast that applies. That's just my impression though.
