Hey new here, high school junior, hopefully it goes well. I want to see what you guys think my chances are for the following Universities: University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, Princeton, MIT.
I want to attend those universities in order to Major in Astronomy/Physics so I could study Astrophysics for my graduate career. Suggestions for other colleges with strong Astronomy/Physics programs are welcome.
Grades- Weighted GPA is 4.03, since my school only offers one AP class. Unweighted GPA is 4.0. I am also ranked top 3 in my class, which usually graduates about 150-200 students a year (small class). I have been on Gold Honor Roll every year, and have had all A's.
Schedule- I have taken the hardest courses my school offers, and so my senior year will consist of mostly online and community college classes. I have been in Honors Physics, and have also taken AP Chemistry online, in which I received A's in both classes. Senior Year I will be taking AP Calculus, AP Statistics online, and AP Psychology online. I will also be taking Astronomy, College Physics, Philosophy, and German at our local community college.
Tests- I have scored a 32 composite on my ACT test (29 English, 32 Math, 32 Science, 34 Reading, 11 on the writing portion). I will be retaking in October. I will also be taking the Math SAT Subject test, and Physics SAT subject test.
Extracurriculars / Activities / Awards- I've logged over 1800 hours in Concert Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Band; I've also have helped our Marching band win 3 state Championships in 4 years, with a runner-up year. I have also been Section Leader of the Trumpet Section since Freshman year. I am in NHS, and am it's Vice President. I am a member of G-Club, which plans school events and meets once a week on Friday Mornings. I work with the school math teachers and participate as a student teacher in their homework clubs, which helps students who are behind in class to catch back up. I also tutor many kids each week in various classes, though most are in Math/Science classes. I have been voted as Member of the Honor Guard, which helps plan and run Graduations for classes. I have won many math and band awards throughout high school. This Summer I am working through the during July and August. I have hundreds of hours of volunteering in our school and city. I have also raised money for our cities Childrens Cancer Hospital.
I'm probably forgetting some important info, but if you need anymore just ask. Sorry for the long post, first time here, and not too sure how the "norm" is. Thanks
