Chance me for OSU(Also EA or RD??)

Ok so I'm a rising Senior here are my stats

Gender: Male
Ethinicity: Black/African-American(Nigerian to be exact)
Income: Not too sure but I know my parents can pay full tuition
Major: Psychology or Undecided
I'm also a double legacy but i've heard that doesn't matter.

GPA: UW: 3.1 W: 3.5
Big upward trend 9th: 2.46 10th: 3.0 11th: 3.8

Freshman year- School I went to didn't offer honors courses for Freshmen

Sophomore year- 1st semester: 1 AP 2 Honors classes 2nd semester: 3 Honors classes

Junior year- 2 APs( AP psych and AP Comparative Government) 3 Honors classes.

Senior year schedule- APUSH, APES, AP Human Geography, Honors English 12, Honors French 3, Honors Calculus, Global Issues(elective)

SAT: 1680 no prep (i've given up on to ACT now)
ACT: WILL PREP this time, i'm shooting for 30+

ECs-
Track and Field- 9/10/11/12
Tech Crew- 9
World Bank Teen Summer Internship Program- 11
Cornell Economics for Leadership program- 11
Muslim Student Alliance- 11/12
Black Student Alliance- 10/11/12
Rockettree Club- 11
Sent Children's books to a school in Nigeria- 11
Volunteered at the Department of Health and Human Services of my County- 10. around 74 hours
Volunteered at Clothing center- 32 Hours
Tutored Middle Schoolers- 8 or 10 hours
Assisted in Elementary school basketball activities- Around 20 hours

I will probably have 150 hours+ when applying.

Awards-
Won a grade improvement/book award at my school(Kappa Alpha Psi book award, I got a kindle )- 11
Won an African American award (non-school)
Won $250 in scholarship money (African American award) also non-school based
I've won a few Track awards (I do triple jump, i'm not very competitive but I've still won a few awards in events)

So yes this is basically it. I'm expecting a very good counselor rec detaling what i have had to go through during the past few years. I will also send a personal statement detailing my poor freshman year (I had some depression due to bullying) and how my poor grades don't represent who I am.

Also should I apply early or regular? I know I can get good grades 1st semester of senior year but i've heard due to the introduction of the common app OSU is going to become hard to get into.

Ohio State - Common Application 2012-2013

Actually it does but not much, especially if you are international and on the fence in terms of admission.

Frankly, your SAT score is rather low!! The current 50%-tile SAT 1200-1350 (ACT 27-31) for Ohio State freshman class. Plus, this will be the 1st year of Common App for tOSU, overall application is expected to increase by around 25%, which translates into much challenging admission. So, my suggestion for you right now would be to take ACT as you alluded above, and aim for 28+ (as your current GPA is upward but overall average) to ensure your acceptance for 2012-2013.

Don't forget to check out "International Undergraduate Scholarship" if you are qualified in the future:

"National Buckeye Scholarship" for OOS Students

^^ In that case, you might be eligible to receive even more merit scholarships and financial aids if you get your ACT score over 28 as mentioned above.

You have good ECs. If you get a 28+ on your ACT you will probably get in.

Early imho. At least that's what tOSU admission office told me when I inquired about my cousin's chance for acceptance last year. Earlier = high / better chance.. I was told.
