What are my chances?
I am an international student (no Green Card or Citizenship) but i've lived in NJ for almost 8 years now. I go to a magnet high school for Engineering and I currently have college-level Electrical Engineering courses in high school. This school accepts only 40 kids out of 300 that apply and we only have 150 kids for all four grades (some kids drop out, etc.). For any engineers out there, I have learned how to program microcontrollers, C++ (action and object oriented), know about all chips like AND, OR, NOT, NAND, MUXES, DEMUXES, ENCODERS, DECODERS, FLIP-FLOPS, etc. I also know Assembly Language, transistors, JAVA, how to program Arduinos, and more. Its quite comprehensive. So it is safe to say I have quite a lot more experience with Electrical Engineering over my peers. This is what i plan to major in, unless i decide to do Computer Science.
Here are the schools that I am looking at:
USouthern California (maybe)
UIllinois, Urbana Champaign
UC LA, Davis, San Diego
Stevens Institute of Technology
UMichigan, Ann Arbor
UMassachusetts, Amherst (maybe)
Here are my credentials:
2230 SAT (770M, 770W, 690CR) - But i have been practicing and am hoping to above 2300 which I think i can get, but please let me know my chances for a 2230 score. If possible, also let me know for a 2300.
SAT Subject: MathII - 720, Chem - 670 - I plan to write these again too because I was horribly under-prepared for both. I am now estimating for an MathII 800 and Chem 750 so please let me know for my estimated score.
Weighted GPA - 4.65 out of 5
I am my schools Math League Vice-President, I have Karate leadership for 4 years, I tutor SAT Math and English, I have 2 years leadership as YMCA swimming instructor, and I am a Peer Mediator at my school.
I have 167 hours of volunteering at YMCA.
I have 107 hours of volunteering at JFK-Hartwyck Nursing, Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center.
I have 200 hours of volunteering at NJ Ayyappa Bhaktha Madala, a religious organization that helps with volunteering at temples.
I have 3 hours of volunteering at Interact Club, Windows to the World Charities, which helps kids with vision problems in India.
I have 5 hours of volunteering at my own school's open house.
I do not have any AP classes because my school is too small for it, however, we are implementing an AP Calc and AP English class next year. I plan to write AP CalcBC and maybe AP Chem next year.
I play Varsity tennis for a different high school because my school does not have a team. I have won some small tournaments. I did Karate for 4 years and am a certified Black Belt and Teacher. I play golf very often and plan to enter some tournaments there as well. I am part of the Math League and finish among the top 5 students in my school as a junior and senior. I came in 4th place at the AMC 10's and 5th place in the AMC 12's in my school. I am going to the Math Olympiad next year. I volunteer at various organizations and help with tutoring to kids who need it. I have written a PC horror game with some friends and do some side research projects for fun. I got into a summer program at Steven's Institute of Technology for computer science. I was academically eligible for NHS but I did not get in. I have one more year to attempt to get into it. I was part of the Yearbook club for a year. I am also part of the Woodbridge Youth Leadership Council and volunteer there frequently.
I am expecting a very good recommendation letter from my Math teacher and a good one from my science teacher. I also personally write essays pretty well so that shouldn't be too much of a problem.
So here is basically my whole resume. Please let me know my chances for the colleges mentioned before. If any of them are basically a guarantee, please let me know specifically. Since I am an international student, I am not eligible for financial aid or many scholarships so there are very few I can attempt to try and get, and even they are college-specific. So any input would definitely be amazing. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
