Chance Me for Brown ED Undergraduate Class of 2017
Hi, I'm planning on applying Early Decision to Brown University and I was wondering if anyone out there could give me an idea of how competitive of an applicant I would be there based on my stats thus far.
SAT I Highest Attempt 2180 (760 M, 690 CR, 730 W)
Superscore: 2190 (760 M, 690 CR, 740 W)
SAT II Subject Tests (750 Math IIC, 780 Chemistry) Retaking Math II, and taking Physics on October 6th.
Secondary School Grade (IB): Mostly 7's through all grades 9-11 (I'm a rising senior). 11th Grade Transcript: IB Math SL: 7, IB Chem SL: 7, IB English HL: 7, IB US History: 7, IB French SL: 7, IB Visual Arts HL: 7 (Unfortunately, this is the most challenging course load I can take at my school.)
I'm in a small school that doesn't calculate GPA or class rank, but I know everyone in my graduating class's grades and I assume I'm am at the top (I say this with the utmost modesty of course).
IB Exams thus far: IB Chem SL: 7
Extracurricular Activities: President of my school's Math Club, Co-founder and president of ping pong club (I also organized fundraising for the club to buy new equipment), Vice president of Chess Club, Interned at Mount Sinai and was part of a leading study on IgE and IgG4 proteins in the immunology department, Interned at Innovest Systems in Manhattan as in quality assurance and development, Mouse Squad Member (Computer maintenance at my school), I play and teach table tennis at a church in Chinatown (I am Caucasian), I play guitar, taught myself piano, and ukulele, all of which I use to record music (this will be part of my application), I am a Chemistry and Math Tutor at my school and I created a website that helps students taking MYP and IB Chem out with course work and explains some material more clearly that the books we use do, Summer '12 I took an introductory Physics course at Baruch to supplement private study (my school doesn't offer physics) and I will be taking the Physics SAT II in October, co-founder of ultimate Frisbee club at my school.
As far as recommendations go: 1 from a math teacher that oversees the math club, I have a 7 in his class and we have an amazing relationship, 1 from a chemistry teacher (I am the only student in the class with a 7 in junior year, also 1/2 students who received a 7 on IB chem exam, we also have a very good relationship, she knows I love science and we talk etc, I also tutor some of her students), possibly one from a Humanities teacher in whose class my initial progress report grade was a 5 but i jumped up to a 7 so the 5 doesnt appear on the transcript.
Guidance Counselor Rec: Probably very good, I'm in his summer program and we've had a fairly long running relationship.
Essays: Short Answer for Common App is very good (about overcoming struggles in creating ping pong club in a school with no gymnasium), Personal Statement is probably great too (about performing and recording Ukulele music, i think it's unique), haven't looked at brown supplements yet.
Weaknesses: SAT Scores, also no public outside of school awards.
I think I want to go into engineering but I love brown because they have a solid medical track too. I also visited campus twice and loved it both times. Anyway's could anyone out there chance me or recommend schools. Thanks!
