Davidson!!

Hey I really like Davidson and I was wondering if anyone here thinks I have a shot, don't say if you are unsure

GPA: 3.31 SAT: 1450 M740 V710 PSAT: National Merit Semi Finalist
Classes: 5 Ap's and 5 Honors total
EC: Junior State of America officer, young american college fellowship officer, knowledge bowl participant, math club. 4 year varsity tennis plus captain senior year, student senate, 200+ volunteer hours, started own car washing business
Recs: Really good, with one humorous one I think
Essays: Unique and well writen
Awards: many small awards that you wouldnt know

May be applying ED2 but most likely RD, what do you think?

Ryan, one problem with Davidson is that they put a lot of emphasis on grades and very little emphasis on standardized tests which is trouble for you cause your test scores are much better than your GPA. But don't worry, I think you'll be getting good news from Emory real soon! Anyways, if you're looking for good smaller schools in the south you should think about Wake Forest and William and Mary.

I think you have a shot, but chances are you won't get in

Davidson
Standerdized test scores and class rank are considered, but your gpa is quite low for their standards.

Where state are you from farbdogg71?

I'm applying to Davidson RD too. Anyways, do you have good scores on the AP Exams? I think if they saw you had taken a difficult courseload and did well on the exams but maybe not incredibly in the classes they would be a little more forgiving about your GPA. What about your class rank? Are you high up there and just go to a low-grading school? Just curious, what are your PSAT scores?

Hey Farbdogg,

I am a sophomore at davidson, I believe your chances would be better ED2 than RD. Your SAT scores are well within the range, As far as your GPA, it depends a bit on the rigor of the school(public or private?) and your performance on the AP tests(they ask for the scores on the application). My GPA was only about 3.5, but I had taken 9 AP courses with scores of 4 and 5 on the exams and went to a private school that did not rank.(My SAT scores were similar to yours). It truly is a great school;, I wish you the best of luck during the application process.

I'm applying RD (but already sort of signed for track and field) and my SAT score was a 1320, but I have a 3.93w GPA (3.5uw).
I think you have a pretty good chance of getting in.

thiticalcrinkin - Im from washington state, I go to the 13 best public school in the country according to newsweek magazine, we were on the cover two years ago.

My class rank isnt very good because we don't weight anything so people with no hard classes are ranked better than me but forgetting that im only top 35%. I haven't done extremely well on the AP Tests either, 3's on the two I have taken.

my psat scores are 67v 69m 80writing, the 80 writing helped me meet the bare minimum for my state of 216, does being a semi finalist have any bearing during the admissions process?

I have issues with measuring the "best public schools" by means of calculating number of (AP+IB Exams Taken)/Graduating Class, but yeah...good luck with Davidsion. Maybe I'll see you around next year and not even know it!
