Chance me W&M, URich, UVA, Wake, NU, more

So I'm applying to the following school soon:

University of Virginia (legacy - participated in their legacy program)
William & Mary
University of Richmond
Wake Forest
Northeastern
Penn State (In-state)
Indiana University (legacy)
Villanova (legacy)

The Statistics

Ethnicity: White (Not an Asian what??)
Gender: M

SAT's:
SAT I: 2050 (720M, 680V, 650W) (retaking in October to raise Verbal/Math hopefully).
SAT II: (Math II: 730) (Bio: 690) (U.S. History: 640 blehh)

GPA: 3.3 Unweighted.
Felt I need to explain the low GPA. My high-school is ranked #1 in my state, and does not offer AP's/weighted GPA/class ranks because they feel they teach each class above AP level (they put that on the high-school profile). If I had to rank myself I'd put myself in top 25-30%, but the top 15-20% go to ivies anyway.

EC's:
- Independant Study Piano: 12 years, 5 hours a week.
- Tennis: Varsity singles player for 5 years (played up in 8th grade! ) and came in 2nd in state tournament. Been playing for 11 years. Will be captain this year.
- Volunteer at local Food Bank for 30+ hours.
Summer youth group trip to help repair homes: 110+ hours
- Member of our Mock Trial team for 3 years now. Placed 8th and 10th in state past 2 years.
- Work at a Law Firm: 150 hours
- Helped coach tennis at a country club: 40 hours
- Math League for now 3 years

My interests are in the school of business/finance.

Thank you so much!

Hmm, according to the Penn State bubble chart you may have a tough time getting into the main Penn State campus, simply because admission is 66% based on GPA. Also, I don't think that Penn State factors in residency. (Unlike UVA, W&M). However, they may judge you based on your school's profile, which seems to show you in a better light.

I am not sure how much importance UVA places on legacy, but as you probably know, 2/3's of the admits are from in-state. To see the competition from the OOS and internationals for the final 1/3 you should view UVA's results threads. It could go either way here for you.

William & Mary, I assume, will be slightly less competitive than UVA, but geographical residence does play a part. Your SATs, ECs are on target, but I don't know how they will react to your GPA.

I wish you luck!

Thank you! UVA was meant as a reach (well...most of them probably are xD) Should maybe add I'm applying to UVA, NU, and Nova early-action.

I'm hoping Penn State factors residency. Since only 22% of all freshmen at Penn State are out-of-state, I'm thinking they might...who knows.

I'd say you'd likely get into UVA, UofR, and William and Mary if they know about your high school or if you somehow mention your high school's competitiveness. UVA's admissions are all over the map so it's hard to predict. UofR you'd probably easily get into but it's one of the most expensive schools in the state so I've never looked into it much. I know some kids who got into William and Mary who are likely around the same level as you so you could get in.

I believe UVA knows the rigour because 10% of last years graduating class (5 people xD) went there, some with under 3.5 GPA's. Also one of them became a high-school ambassador as a freshman and is actually coming back to my high-school in a few days to give the UVA information session!

I loved UofR's campus, and money isn't as big of a deal for me as some (just my grades ).

One of my teachers writing my letter of rec went to W&M (my tennis coach/advisor/Adv. Chem teacher) so hopefully she writes a great one for me.

Thank you for your input!

As an out-of-stater, William and Mary and UVa are reaches. Wake looks to be a reach too but everything else looks like a low reach/match.
