USC Sophomore Transfer HELP!

I have a feeling my chances are really low, but I'd love to hear your opinions and suggestions!

So this is my situation:

I really want to get out of community college and transfer to a university by Fall 2013. I was looking towards USC or UCI, but right now I don't have enough units to transfer to a UC so I can only apply to USC this year.

I just started my second year (third semester) of college.

After my first year (two semesters) I completed 38 units and received a 3.7 GPA. All units are transferable BUT sadly, none satisfy GE requirements (except English).

Right now I'm only going to school part time (seven units) so by the end of this semester I'll only have a total of 45 units.

Next semester (spring 2013) I'll be sure to take only classes that satisfy GE requirements.

My SAT scores were okay and my GPA graduating high school was a 3.4.

I currently work two jobs, I volunteer at a children's hospital, I'm active in my church, and I moved to California on my own after high school (if any of that information matters).

Oh and another thing that I know will lower my chances of getting accepted. I have ONE W. I had to drop my Calculus I class ):

I know technically next year if I go to USC I'll be a junior, but unit wise I'd be considered a sophomore because I know by the end of Spring 2013, I won't have 60 units.

I'm planning on applying as an undeclared major, but I'm thinking of kinesiology or biological science.

I actually want to finish my GE and start on my major classes at USC. I really don't want to take them at a CC.

Should I still apply or? What should I do?

By the looks of it, You seem to have a good chance at both USC and UCI. I know for USC (since I am a transfer student attending) all thats required is English and math requirement done by the spring prior to the fall/new academic year. UCI, there is the whole 60units/IGETC and major prep courses done before attending. For UCI, you don't need all GEs but the more you have, (along with major prep) the more competitive you are.

As for SC, your chances seem pretty good, since kinesiology and bio are in dornsife so the majors aren't competitive. Just keep your GPA high, volunteering is nearly a MUST and just work hard on the personal statement. Your SAT and HS gpa wont count since you have over 30 units by the app deadline.

For the W situation. explain why you had to drop it in the last comments section of the app. As long as you don't drop anything this coming spring, you shouldn't worry to much. Also, if you took the W class over and got a good grade, thats even better!

You seem to be on the right track. Good luck! And I would definitely apply to both this year (but SC is better ahaha)
