There is a silver lining though I did exceptional my junior year
I was wondering what would my chances be to get accepted to an Illinois state school like University of Illinois at CHICAGO or Northern Illinois university
Freshmen GPA: 2.14
Sophomore GPA: 1.78
Junior Year: 3.565
Total: 2.4933333333

EC: President of Finance club
40 community service hours

ACT composite:29

Currently taking 4 AP classes

I understand that my first two years in high school I had a terrible GPA and this was due to various reasons
I was wondering if they would overlook it or give more weight to my most recent year and if I actually have a chance at these schools

besides my AP's

johnjacob - I looked at our school's (Chicago selective enrollment HS) Naviance scattergram for you.

For UIC the GPA cut-off with your ACT is at 2.5
For NIU the GPA cut-off with your ACT is at 1.8

I think NIU is safe for you and UIC is a match/low reach.

I know at UI Urbana Champaign admissions pays scant attention to anything else other than GPA and ACT - they really "automate" the process and it's a numbers formula. I don't know if UIC is the same.

I'm assuming you posted your un-weighted GPA. Your weighted should be higher since all you classes were Honors and AP which will be to your advantage I think.

you could easily get into Northern with those test scores and that GPA. UIC is a lot more difficult but you could apply to Southern Illinois, Easter, or Western and would probably get in. Since your ACT is pretty high and you did great your junior year it is most likely schools will see your change and hopefully admit you!

From Naviance (Chicago selective enrollment HS cohort), for DePaul the GPA cut-off with your ACT is 2.4

A lot of people see Loyola in the same group. One scool that you may not have thought of is Lake Forest College. They like CPS kids and offer good financial assistance. Cut-off with your ACT should be about 2.5 as well.
